SUMMER IN THE ARCTIC

6-Day Summer Expedition June 18–23, 2027

MY ARCTIC, YOUR LOCAL EXPERTS
Svalbard in summer

The Arctic is our home, and sharing its raw beauty is our greatest passion. We live in Longyearbyen, living in the rhythm of polar night and 24-hour daylight. This means we know every rock, every weather whim, and the most beautiful, hidden corners of the archipelago.

We know how to show you the best of Spitsbergen: safely, authentically, and far from mass, established tourism.

Financial security: MyArctic AS is a licensed Norwegian company based in Svalbard. We are an official member of the Norwegian Tourism Guarantee Fund (RFG) and Visit Svalbard.

This means you are 100% legally protected, and we operate according to the highest, rigorous standards of the Norwegian tourism industry.

ACCOMODATION

Accommodation: Gjesthuset 102 (Nybyen)
Our base will be the atmospheric, historic guesthouse Gjesthuset 102, located in the upper part of town—in the historic mining district of Nybyen. This unique place has a soul, once home to Norwegian miners. A huge advantage of this location is that the legendary trekking trails to the Longyearbreen and Larsbreen glaciers begin literally outside the building's door!

Included in the price: Delicious, nutritious breakfasts served daily as a buffet—ideal for recharging your batteries before a full day in the Arctic.

Standard Rooms: Cozy, clean, and warm double rooms. Bathrooms and toilets are located in the hallway (cleaned regularly, high Scandinavian standards, and easy access). The guesthouse has a traditional policy of removing shoes upon entry, creating a homely atmosphere. Premium Option (additional fee): For those who value complete autonomy, we offer the option of a single room or a room with a private bathroom (at a different location in Longyearbyen) for an additional fee.

Please ask us about availability when booking.

DAY 1: WELCOME TO THE ARCTIC

(Friday, 18.06.2027) Arrival and Logistics: After landing at Longyearbyen Airport (LYR) in the evening and collecting your luggage, you’ll be transferred directly to the door of our guesthouse, Gjesthuset 102. We’ll help you check in and unpack.

Longyearbyen Walk under the Midnight Sun: After a short rest, we’ll set off on a relaxed walk through the world’s northernmost town – in June the sun never sets, so the evening light is simply magical. We’ll show you what daily life looks like at 78°N, where to shop duty-free and where the best coffee is.

Safety Briefing: We’ll go through the plan for the coming days and the rules of safe travel in the Arctic summer: how to dress in layers and how to behave in polar bear country.

Meals: Dinner on your own at one of the local restaurants.

DAY 2: SVALBARD MUSEUM, SEED VAULT & CAR SAFARI

(Saturday, 19.06.2027) Svalbard Museum: After breakfast we start at the Svalbard Museum – the best introduction to the archipelago’s nature, wildlife and 400 years of history, from whalers and trappers to miners.

Car Safari: Then we hop in our car and drive deep into the wide Adventdalen valley, past the historic Mines 5, 6 and 7, to the famous polar bear warning sign and the Global Seed Vault – “humanity’s backup plan” buried in the permafrost. A perfect day for photos of green tundra, reindeer and glaciers.

Duration: approx. 10:00–16:00.

Meals: Breakfast included. Lunch and dinner on your own.

DAY 3: TREKKING TO SARKOFAGEN

(Sunday, 20.06.2027) Trekking to Sarkofagen (09:00–15:00): Today we head up into the mountains above Longyearbyen. The trail leads along the Longyearbreen glacier, where you can spot 60-million-year-old plant fossils, up to the Sarkofagen summit with a breathtaking view over the town, Adventfjorden and the glaciers.

Level: A moderate hike that requires average fitness. Good hiking boots are a must. Your guide sets the pace for the group and carries all safety equipment.

Meals: Breakfast included. Bring a packed lunch and a thermos.

DAY 4: INSIDE MINE 3

(Monday, 21.06.2027) Mine 3: Today we go inside a real Arctic coal mine. Mine 3 near the airport was in operation until 1996 – with a guide you’ll walk through the tunnels, see the original equipment and hear how miners lived and worked in the High North.

Free time: The rest of the day is yours – for a café, shopping or an optional activity (e.g. kayaking along a glacier or a walrus safari, at extra cost). We’ll gladly help you book in advance.

Meals: Breakfast included. Lunch and dinner on your own.

DAY 5: BOAT TRIP TO THE GLACIER

(Tuesday, 22.06.2027) Boat Trip to the Glacier (09:00–15:30): We set sail across Isfjorden to the front of a calving glacier. On the way we look out for seals, seabirds and, with a bit of luck, whales. Watching tons of ice break off into the sea is an unforgettable experience.

Comfort: The boat has a heated cabin, so you can enjoy the views both on deck and inside.

Meals: Breakfast included.

(Wednesday, 23.06.2027) Last moments at 78°N: We have our last breakfast together at Gjesthuset 102. Time to pack your souvenirs and take the last photos – and then a transfer to the airport for your 13:30 flight home.
